Welcome to the South West Pirates!

The Warrnambool Volleyball Association has a long and proud history of introducing players to one of the world’s most popular non-contact sports.

Our programs include junior and senior competitions, as well as representative squads for elite players. Squads train weekly in preparation for a number of state tournaments throughout the year, including our own annual Seaside event, held on the Labour Day long weekend each March, which is one of Australia’s longest running volleyball carnivals.

Warrnambool Volleyball Association prides itself on being an inclusive club supporting players of all cultural backgrounds and abilities.

We would like to extend our continued thanks to our sponsors.

From Cameron BartlettWVA TreasurerI would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to all the teams that traveled to Warrnambool and participated in this year’s Seaside Tournament over the long weekend. Your dedication and enthusiasm were integral to the success of the event, and we are deeply appreciative of your support.I would also like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to my wife, Rachelle Bartlett, for successfully leading this year’s tournament for the first time after many years of working alongside Craig Gibs. While it presented its share of challenges, particularly as we worked together as husband and wife, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to collaborate in this capacity. I look forward to the possibility of working together again next year and am immensely proud of all that she accomplished.Additionally, I would like to express my profound appreciation to Cheree Roberts for her diligent efforts in organizing the entries and managing the numerous emails. Your commitment and attention to detail were instrumental in ensuring the smooth execution of the event, and we are truly grateful for the time and effort you dedicated to this process.I would also like to extend my thanks to everyone who volunteered their time and support over the course of the weekend. Whether your contributions were large or small, your assistance played a crucial role in the success of the tournament, and we are sincerely grateful for your willingness to lend a hand.We look forward to welcoming you all again next year.Kind regards,Cameron BartlettWVA Treasurer ... Seaside wrap up 2025Another successful weekend for seaside this year. Congrats to all the teams that won in there respective divisions. A big thank you to all the teams, family’s and especially volunteers that helped out over the weekend, we wouldn’t be able to put on an amazing tournament without them!Division 1 Men coached by Craig Gibbs:“Seaside saw our Men’s Div 1 side again put their continued hard training into practice over the weekend. After the usual sluggish start we managed to hit top gear and played some nice volleyball on the Saturday. Unfortunately Sat afternoons game saw us lose a key player which changed the structure of game play but all players adapted well, playing positions they aren’t completely used too but with good effect. This continued through for Sundays games. Overall, we only dropped 2 games across the weekend (both close losses) but we had enough points and % that we made it into the finals. Unfortunately, we weren’t good enough to pull the win off, finding ourselves outclassed against the team that went on to win the division. All in all a great weekend, everyone played their role and played it well, and we look forward to our next tournament.”Division 3 men coached by Isaac Hussey “The team went into the weekend excited to prove what we can bring to the court. Our team was well prepared with some experienced players coming into the mix to bring their wealth experience and knowledge. Our first games are usually a slow start but the boys come out to prove a point. With a strong start and some close games on Saturday. We come out undefeated with 3 wins and 1 draw. Going into Sunday we faced Bendigo who were also in the same position. With 3 wins and a draw, With a closely competitive division it was a must win game to qualify us for the semi final. The boys showed there class and were able to beat Bendigo in what was our best game of the weekend. Everything seemed to click and the boys were playing some absolutely amazing volleyball. We went into the semi final confident we could replicate this performance. Unfortunately after a hard thought 3 setter. We couldn’t get the job done. It’s a rough way to get knocked out right at the end. But all the boys should be so proud of what we accomplished over the weekend. I have no doubt that come this same time next year. The story will end differently. Couldn’t have asked for any better from anyone over the weekend. Can’t wait to see what we can do come the next tournament this year. ... See MoreSee Less
